Statement regarding LockBit claims

Earlier this morning we became aware of tweets from LockBit, the cyber-criminal gang, claiming that they had compromised Darktrace’s internal security systems and had accessed our data. Our security teams have run a full review of our internal systems and can see no evidence of compromise. None of the LockBit social media posts link to any compromised Darktrace data. We will continue to monitor the situation extremely closely, but based on our current investigations we are confident that our systems remain secure and all customer data is fully protected.

Major Hospital Group Fights Back Cyber-Threats with Darktrace AI

January 9, 2018

Darktrace, the world leader in AI technology for cyber defense, has today announced that Penn Highlands Healthcare has deployed Darktrace’s AI technology to detect and autonomously fight back against emerging cyber-threats in real time.

From the moment we deployed Darktrace, it started alerting us to genuine threats that were not visible to our traditional tools,” commented Tom Johnson, CIO, Penn Highlands Healthcare. “Protecting our thousands of interconnected computers, servers, and medical devices, as well as safeguarding sensitive patient information, is imperative to providing the first-class medical care we aspire to. The Enterprise Immune System is our core defense - it arms us with world-leading AI technology that detects and autonomously responds to genuine threats across the entire infrastructure, including IoT devices.”

Powered by machine learning and AI algorithms, the Enterprise Immune System autonomously learns the ‘pattern of life’ for every user and device on Penn Highlands’ network, including all interconnected medical devices. Traditional cyber security tools are inherently retrospective, analyzing past threats in an attempt to predict and stop attacks at the network perimeter. In contrast, Darktrace’s ability to learn on the job, analyzing data in live, complex networks, enables it to catch the threats legacy technologies consistently miss. The Enterprise Immune System also goes a step further to fight back against threats, taking autonomous action to stop, or slow down in-progress attacks.

The proliferation of interconnected medical equipment is rapidly transforming diagnostics, monitoring, and treatment,” commented Rob Sass, Managing Director, North America. “But for all of their undeniable benefits, these IoT devices introduce vulnerabilities that are increasingly being exploited by attackers. Penn Highlands joins a growing number of healthcare organizations who lead the charge in adopting Darktrace’s AI technology to stay ahead of even the most sophisticated attackers across all devices, including non-traditional IT.”
